Total Joint Replacement
Occasionally, it may be necessary for a patient experiencing severe joint pain, such as arthritis, to receive total joint replacement. A joint is where two bones are joined so that they can move relative to one another. The knee, for example, is the joint between the thighbone and the lower part of the leg. The procedure involves totally removing the damaged joint and replacing it with an artificial joint called prosthesis.
